Accident – Death – Obituary News :

In a terrifying turn of events, a 10-year-old girl is among five people who have been injured in the second bear attack in Slovakia in just three days. The incident took place in Liptovsky Mikulas, near the Tatra mountains in northern Slovakia, where a large brown bear was captured on camera attacking residents.

State of Emergency Declared in Liptovsky Mikulas

Following the attack, a state of emergency has been declared in Liptovsky Mikulas, urging residents to exercise caution. This comes after a 31-year-old Belarussian woman, identified as Tatiana, was tragically found dead in a separate bear sighting nearby.

Injuries Sustained in the Attack

Among the injured in the latest attack are a 49-year-old woman being treated for a shoulder injury and a 72-year-old man with a cut on his head. Additionally, a 10-year-old girl and two other adults suffered scratches and bruises, while a couple pushing their child in a buggy managed to escape unharmed.

Response and Safety Measures

Authorities have urged residents to remain indoors, especially during early and late hours, as animal hunters work to locate and eliminate the bear. The town hall stated, “We cannot allow a bear to attack five people in the centre in broad daylight,” emphasizing the need for swift action.

Previous Bear Encounter

The recent attack comes shortly after the death of Tatiana in the Low Tatra mountain range, where she encountered a brown bear while walking with a companion. The tragic incident resulted in Tatiana’s demise, prompting increased vigilance in the area.

Environmental Impact and Bear Population

Brown bears have seen a resurgence in the Carpathian mountains, including Slovakia, due to improved environmental protections. However, this has led to an increase in bear attacks, prompting calls for the relaxation of their endangered species status to allow for culling and hunting.

Proposed Legislation

In response to the recent attacks, Slovakian officials, including junior environment minister Filip Kuffa, are considering a draft law to permit the shooting of bears outside urban areas under specific conditions. This proposal aims to address the growing concerns surrounding bear-human interactions in the region.
