Tragic Murder-Suicide at Nokomis Dollar General Store

The Nokomis Police Department is currently investigating a heartbreaking incident that took place at the Dollar General store located at 415 N. Spruce St. on Friday night. Officers responded to the scene shortly after 10 p.m., where they discovered a disturbing scene.

Details of the Incident

Upon arrival, officers found Summer Eller, a 22-year-old employee of the store, deceased from an apparent gunshot wound. Police Chief Talon Burton provided this information in a news release. Additionally, Jason Devaisher, 46, was found inside the store with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was transported to the hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.

According to preliminary investigations, Devaisher was Eller’s estranged boyfriend. The tragic sequence of events unfolded when Devaisher confronted Eller at the back of the store just before closing time. He allegedly shot her before turning the gun on himself, resulting in this devastating outcome.

Location and Context

The Dollar General store in question was formerly a Kroger store, which closed its doors in 2021. Nokomis, where this incident occurred, is situated 55 minutes southeast of Springfield in Montgomery County.

This harrowing incident has left the community in shock and mourning. The Nokomis Police Department is working diligently to piece together the events leading up to this tragic murder-suicide.
