Tragic Drug Overdose Leads to Toddler’s Death in St. Louis County

In a heartbreaking turn of events, a 4-year-old girl named Sanaa Riggins tragically lost her life over the weekend due to a drug overdose. The incident took place in the 9100 block of Cozens Avenue in Jennings, Missouri, a quiet suburb located in St. Louis County.

Authorities from the St. Louis County Police Department responded to the scene just after 6:20 p.m. after receiving a distress call. Upon arrival, they found young Sanaa unresponsive in her father’s bed, showing signs of a drug overdose. She was quickly rushed to St. Louis Children’s Hospital, but sadly, she was pronounced dead shortly before 7:30 p.m.

Discovery of Heroin Capsules in the Home

During their investigation, law enforcement officers discovered several capsules of heroin within the residence. The child’s father, who had legal custody of Sanaa due to her mother’s reported drug use, did not exhibit any signs of drug involvement.

Investigators also revealed that Sanaa was born under the influence of a controlled substance, highlighting the troubled history surrounding her upbringing.

Mother Admits to Drug Addiction

Christina Huntspon, Sanaa’s mother, confessed to authorities about her severe drug addiction and admitted to using heroin in the home earlier that morning. She acknowledged that her addiction likely played a role in the tragic death of her daughter.

As a result, the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Huntspon with first-degree endangering the welfare of a child, specifically in relation to the death of a child. She was subsequently taken into custody and is being held on a $500,000 cash-only bond.

This heartbreaking incident serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact that drug addiction can have on families and communities. Our thoughts go out to Sanaa Riggins and all those affected by this tragic loss.
