Tragedy struck in Baleswar district on Monday morning as an engineering student lost his life in a lightning strike, while a woman sustained severe injuries in a separate incident.
Incident in Tukuri village
The first incident took place in Tukuri village of Hazira panchayat under the Bhograi police station. The victim, Ranjan Paramanik, was a promising engineering student studying in Bhubaneswar. As heavy rain and lightning lashed the area, Ranjan was on his way to visit a prawn Gheri when the fatal mishap occurred.
Seeking shelter in a thatched house, Ranjan was unexpectedly struck by lightning, resulting in his tragic death. The Kutcha house also caught fire in the incident, adding to the devastation.
Second incident in Pasarabindha village
In a separate incident, the daughter-in-law of Mrutyunjay Ghadei was injured during an electrical short circuit caused by a lightning strike in Pasarabindha village. The woman, who was using her mobile phone at the time, suffered critical injuries and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
These shocking incidents serve as a sobering reminder of the unpredictable and dangerous nature of lightning during heavy storms. Authorities are urging caution and awareness to prevent such tragic events from reoccurring in the future.
