A devastating incident occurred in Aldine, Texas, where a one-year-old girl lost her life after being accidentally run over by an Uber driver. The heartbreaking accident took place on Sunday afternoon in the parking lot of an apartment complex along Waverly Drive.
The Unfortunate Turn of Events
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office reported that the Uber driver had just dropped off three adults and the young girl at the apartment complex. As the adults walked towards the building, the toddler was in front of the vehicle, unbeknownst to the driver.
Lieutenant K Benoit of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office stated, “When the Uber driver saw the female adult clear at a couple of feet, he began driving forward to turn around, accidentally rolling over the child.”
Desperate Attempts to Save the Child
Distraught family members rushed to rescue the girl and quickly drove her to the hospital. They flagged down an emergency vehicle nearby, which transported the child to the hospital. Tragically, despite the efforts to save her, the young girl succumbed to her injuries.
Assault on the Driver
In the aftermath of the incident, family members opened the doors of the SUV and assaulted the driver. The driver sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.
Neighbours Witness the Tragic Scene
Neighbours in the apartment complex were shocked by the commotion outside. Simya Washington, whose security camera captured the incident, described the scene as traumatic. “I just heard a lot of commotion outside, and I just came outside, and I just saw, like, blood and a baby laying on the ground,” Washington said.
Legal Proceedings
As of now, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office has not filed any charges against either the driver or the family members who assaulted him. Lieutenant Benoit mentioned, “At this time, no charges have been filed, but however, it is still under investigation. There could be charges a couple of different ways.”
The driver has been identified as Muhammad Khan, while the identity of the young girl has not been disclosed.
