Men Arrested for Attempted Vehicle Theft in San Mateo

Two men, one from Los Banos, were apprehended by the San Mateo Police Department after allegedly trying to steal a car in the early hours of Friday morning. The incident took place in the 600 block of Barneson Avenue, where concerned citizens alerted authorities to suspicious activity.

Police Response and Arrest

Upon receiving the 911 call, the San Mateo Police Department dispatched officers to the scene. Upon arrival, officers discovered two individuals inside a parked vehicle who attempted to flee upon seeing law enforcement. Despite their efforts to evade capture, both men were found hiding under bushes in a nearby front yard.

Vehicle Owner Confirmation

Further investigation revealed that the parked car belonged to a local resident who confirmed that he did not know the suspects and that his vehicle had been broken into. The suspects were identified as Jose Gonzalez-Ramirez, 34, from Los Banos, and Jorge Cobac, 20, from San Mateo.

Charges and Booking

During the arrest, a concealed fixed-blade knife was found on Gonzalez-Ramirez, leading to additional charges of carrying a concealed dirk or dagger. Both men were taken into custody on suspicion of burglary, resisting arrest, and conspiracy. They were subsequently booked into San Mateo County Jail.
