Accident – Death – Obituary News : The tragic incident that took place late on Saturday in Cordem, Balli has left the residents of Margao in shock. Two individuals, Hakku Sathaliya and Devraj Sathaliya, lost their lives when the truck they were travelling in veered off the road and plunged into a gorge. The truck, which was carrying cashew nuts from Mangaluru to Kolhapur, met with the unfortunate accident while crossing a culvert at Cordem.

Thirteen people who were seated in the carrier of the vehicle were trapped under the sacks of cashew nuts that fell on them due to the impact of the collision. The injured were rushed to South Goa district hospital in Margao and GMC, Bambolim for treatment. The authorities have confirmed that most of the injured are currently undergoing treatment and are in stable condition.

Chief minister Pramod Sawant, along with social welfare minister Subhash Phal Dessai and BJP general secretary Narendra Sawaikar, were returning home after a visit to Canacona when they reached the accident site. They immediately sprang into action and assisted in the rescue operation alongside the police and fire brigade.

The driver of the vehicle, Rakesh Gore from Ratnagiri, has been booked for rash and negligent driving causing death. Police have revealed that he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. It has also been reported that the driver had allowed hitchhiking travellers to board the vehicle at Canacona, leading to overcrowding in the truck.

The tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of drunk driving and the importance of following road safety regulations. The authorities have urged the public to exercise caution while travelling and to refrain from risky behaviors that could result in such devastating consequences.
