Long Beach, CA — Authorities have arrested a 65-year-old man in connection to a shooting that took place in the Carson Park neighborhood early Monday morning. The incident occurred in the 6700 block of East Walkerton Street at approximately 12:41 a.m.

Details of the Incident

Upon arrival at the scene, officers found a man with a non-fatal gunshot wound in his lower body. The victim was quickly transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.

Suspect Apprehended

According to the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD), the preliminary investigation suggests that the suspect, identified as Douglas Hammond, shot the victim following a brief verbal exchange. The authorities were able to locate and arrest Hammond shortly after the incident. During the arrest, officers recovered a firearm.

Suspect’s Arrest

Hammond, who was also transported to a local hospital for an unrelated medical condition, has been booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and carrying a firearm in public. His bail has been set at $30,000.
