The Tragic Accident in Saline County, Kansas
On a fateful evening in Saline County, a heartbreaking accident took the lives of two young teens, sending shockwaves through the community. The incident occurred just before 6:30 p.m. on Friday, in the 2800 Block of West Crawford Street, just west of Fairchild Road.
The Details of the Accident
According to Saline County Sheriff Roger Soldan, the accident involved a 2001 Chevrolet Camero driven by 17-year-old Vance McComber from Salina. McComber was reportedly drag racing a 2017 Chevy Camaro westbound when tragedy struck. The 2001 Camaro collided head-on with a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 41-year-old Rosa Vasquez.
Tragically, both McComber and his passenger, 17-year-old Anthony Windell, lost their lives in the crash. Another passenger in the 2001 Camaro, 17-year-old Alphonso Torres Ramirez, sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was rushed to Salina Regional Health Center for treatment.
EMS also attended to Vasquez and a 12-year-old passenger in the pickup truck, both of whom suffered severe but non-life-threatening injuries in the collision. The aftermath of the accident left the community reeling and in mourning for the young lives lost.

As authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, Sheriff Soldan speculated on the possible causes. He mentioned that there were indications of drag racing activity leading up to the collision, but the exact cause remains uncertain.
