Tragic Collision Claims Two Lives and Injures Seven in Wilbarger County

In a devastating turn of events, a fatal collision on US 70 (287) near Oklaunion in Wilbarger County has left two individuals dead and seven others injured. The incident, which took place on March 16th at around 6:10 PM, involved three vehicles and occurred amidst rainy weather conditions.

The primary victim of the crash was identified as 43-year-old Than Than Shwe from Vernon, TX, who was driving a 2014 Honda Odyssey. Tragically, Shwe succumbed to injuries sustained in the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene. Another fatality was a 9-year-old female passenger from Dallas, TX, who was travelling in a 2021 GMC Yukon. The identity of the young victim has not been disclosed.

Several individuals involved in the accident suffered varying degrees of injuries. The driver of the GMC Yukon, 48-year-old Michael Mullens from Dallas, TX, sustained injuries and was promptly transported to Wilbarger General for medical treatment. Alongside him, his passengers, including 45-year-old Marissa Mullens and three minors aged 15, 13, and 14, also sustained incapacitating injuries and were taken to the same medical facility for care.

Furthermore, the driver of a 2023 Honda Pilot, 44-year-old Hernando Trejos from Fort Worth, TX, and a passenger, 39-year-old Lorena Trejos, also from Fort Worth, TX, sustained injuries and were transported to Wilbarger General Hospital for immediate medical attention.

Sequence of Events Leading to the Collision

Preliminary investigations into the crash revealed that the tragic sequence of events began when Vehicle 1, driven by Than Than Shwe, failed to maintain its lane while travelling southwest on US 70. As a result, Vehicle 1 lost control on a curved section of the road, veering over the cable barrier, through the median, and entering the opposite lane where it collided head-on with Vehicle 2, a GMC Yukon. Additionally, Vehicle 3 attempted to evade the collision but was unable to do so, ultimately striking Vehicle 2 as well.

Sgt. Gutierrez has issued an appeal for assistance in locating a missing pet Goldendoodle named Allie from Vehicle 2. Anyone with information is urged to contact Sgt. Gutierrez at 254-413-8786.
