Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Four Indonesian workers are still missing after a fishing boat capsized on the southern coast of South Korea on March 9, 2024. The Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI) is working closely with the Indonesian Embassy in South Korea to locate the missing workers.

Search and Rescue Efforts

Of the seven Indonesian workers who were on board the ill-fated fishing boat, three have been found dead. The search for the remaining four workers is ongoing, with hopes of bringing them back to Indonesia to be reunited with their families.

Weather Conditions and Responsibility

Benny Rhamdani, Chairperson of BP2MI, pointed out that the accident was caused by severe weather conditions. He expressed concerns about the decision to allow the fishing boat to sail despite the high winds and rough seas. BP2MI plans to request the Indonesian Foreign Minister to send a diplomatic note to the South Korean authorities holding the fishing company accountable for the incident.

Arrival of the Deceased Workers

The agency received the caskets of the three Indonesian workers who lost their lives in the accident. The bodies were flown back to Indonesia by Garuda Indonesia and arrived at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. The deceased workers were identified as Maulana Mansyur, Arie Permana, and Safrudin, hailing from different regions of Indonesia.

Next Steps

BP2MI is prepared to hand over the caskets to the families of the deceased workers in their respective hometowns. The agency remains committed to supporting Indonesian workers overseas and ensuring their safety and well-being.
