CALHOUN COUNTY– On Sunday, March 17, a somber atmosphere enveloped Neely Henry Lake near Ohatchee as the body of a missing individual was recovered by the dedicated members of the Pell City Dive Team. The incident occurred at approximately 2:54 p.m., marking a heartbreaking end to the search efforts.

Sergeant Jeremy J. Burkett of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency confirmed that the individual, identified as Mark C. Magouirk, 62, of Anniston, was found approximately 20 feet from where he went missing near the Lakeshore Marina. Magouirk is believed to have tragically fallen into the water while fishing from a dock in the vicinity of the Marina.

Assisting in the search and recovery efforts were troopers from ALEA’s Marine Patrol Division, the Ohatchee Fire Department, the Southside Fire Department, the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office, the Cherokee County Search and Rescue team, the North Alabama Search Dog Association, the Pell City Dive Team, the Rainbow City Fire Department, and the Ohatchee Police Department.

As the investigation continues, no further details have been released. The community mourns the loss of Mark C. Magouirk and extends its deepest sympathies to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
