Choice Hotels Facing Lawsuit Over Alleged Sex Trafficking

Choice Hotels is currently embroiled in a legal battle, as a lawsuit has been filed against them on behalf of a victim of sex trafficking. The alleged incidents took place on company properties, including a Brockton Rodeway Inn, spanning from 2016 to 2018.

Details of the Lawsuit

The lawsuit, filed by Keches Law Group in Massachusetts U.S. District Court, represents the victim, identified as “I.W.” in court documents. According to the complaint, the victim was in an abusive relationship for three years and was trafficked in hotels owned by Choice Hotels. She was allegedly forced to engage in sex with strangers on a daily basis.

Allegations of Abuse

The victim claimed that her life became controlled by the traffickers, who forced her onto Choice Hotels properties. She stated that she was repeatedly raped and subjected to physical and psychological abuse during her time at the hotels. The complaint also mentioned instances where the victim sought help from hotel staff, but received no assistance.

Red Flags Ignored

The complaint highlighted that Choice Hotels should have been aware of the trafficking due to various red flags, such as signs of illegal drug use, a large number of condoms in the trash, and cash payments for extended stays. Despite these warning signs, the hotel allegedly did not intervene to protect the victim.

Choice Hotels Responds

When contacted for a response, a representative from Choice Hotels stated that they do not comment on ongoing litigation. However, they emphasised their commitment to condemning human trafficking and providing resources for hotel owners to educate themselves on how to spot and respond to such situations.

Global Impact of Sex Trafficking

According to statistics from the International Labour Organization, the sex trafficking industry generates approximately $99 billion annually. This staggering figure underscores the importance of addressing and combatting human trafficking on a global scale.

As the lawsuit progresses, it remains to be seen how Choice Hotels will navigate the legal challenges ahead and what measures they will implement to address the issues raised in the complaint.
