Details of the Crash

The collision involved three vehicles – a 2023 BMW sedan, a 2013 Ford SUV, and a 2007 Chevy pickup truck. The BMW sedan, driven by a 69-year-old man from Pahoa, was travelling east towards Hilo when it overtook other vehicles and collided head-on with the Ford SUV, driven by an 85-year-old man from Keauhou, who was heading west towards Kona. The impact of the crash caused the Ford SUV to then strike the Chevy pickup truck, driven by a 65-year-old man, also from Pahoa.

Tragic Loss and Injuries

Tragically, the front-seat passenger of the Ford SUV, 80-year-old Diane Pittman from Keauhou, was found unresponsive at the scene and later pronounced dead at Hilo Medical Center. The driver of the BMW sedan and the driver of the Ford SUV suffered injuries and were also taken to the medical center for treatment. Additionally, the driver of the Chevy pickup truck sustained minor injuries.
