Guantanamo Bay as a Processing Site for Haitian Migrants

Brandon Judd’s Warning

Brandon Judd, president of the National Border Patrol Council, has raised concerns about the capacity of agents to handle the increasing number of Haitian migrants. He stated that if the Coast Guard intercepts Haitian migrants at sea and prevents them from entering Florida ports, they would be transported to Guantanamo Bay for processing. Judd highlighted the potential strain on infrastructure if detentions exceed 1,000 per day.

Coast Guard Interceptions

According to Coast Guard crews in South Florida, a total of 219 Haitian migrants have been interdicted so far in fiscal year 2024. This figure represents a significant increase from the 3,717 interdictions in fiscal 2023 and 7,175 in fiscal 2022.
