Accident – Death – Obituary News :

An investigation into a police officer’s shooting of a 32-year-old man who was allegedly holding a woman and her two children hostage in Fort Collins last month revealed disturbing details. Colten Sirio, the man in question, had made a chilling declaration to his mother prior to the incident, expressing his desire to “die like his brother” at the hands of police.

The Shooting Incident

Colten Sirio was wounded by gunfire following a Feb. 7 interaction with Fort Collins Police Services Officer Ryan Fandre. Fandre, who was later cleared of criminal wrongdoing, encountered Sirio walking with a woman and her children in the Campus West area. Sirio was armed with a gun he had stolen from the woman’s home two days earlier.

Family Tragedy

In a tragic twist, it was revealed that Sirio’s brother, Christopher Dockery, had been shot and killed by Greeley police in 2021. Sirio had expressed a desire to emulate his brother’s fate, leading up to the confrontation with Officer Fandre.

The Confrontation

Officer Fandre approached Sirio and the woman, who was pushing two children in a stroller, and was met with a chilling response from Sirio. Despite Fandre’s attempts to de-escalate the situation, Sirio continued to hold the woman at gunpoint, claiming she was his wife and child.

As the standoff unfolded, Sirio used the woman as a shield, moving her strategically to avoid police gunfire. Eventually, Fandre retrieved a rifle and fired a single shot, striking Sirio in the shoulder/chest. Sirio dropped his weapon, and the woman and children were unharmed.

Legal Ramifications

After being treated at a hospital, Sirio was booked into the Larimer County Detention Center. He faces multiple charges, including six counts of kidnapping, and is being held on a half-million-dollar cash bond. Sirio’s criminal record reveals a history of interactions with the Colorado Department of Corrections.

As the investigation into the shooting continues, the community of Fort Collins is left grappling with the aftermath of a harrowing incident that left a man wounded and a family traumatized.
