Shooting Incident at Lake Fayetteville Leads to Arrest

A recent arrest has been made in connection with a shooting incident that occurred at Lake Fayetteville in February, resulting in the tragic death of one individual and injuries to four others. Fayetteville police have taken Alberto Esteban-Cruz, 21, into custody on charges of attempted murder, terroristic act, and engaging in violent criminal group activity.

Details of the Incident

The shooting took place at the Lake Fayetteville Environmental Studies Center late in the evening on February 15. Authorities responded to a call reporting the incident and discovered 18-year-old Christian Alexander Rodriguez-Barroso with a fatal gunshot wound at the scene.

Video footage from the incident revealed a large gathering of individuals engaging in a physical altercation, which escalated into gunshots being fired. The footage captured muzzle flashes from a vehicle, with Esteban-Cruz seen firing shots at another vehicle attempting to leave the area.

Arrest and Admission

Following the incident, Fayetteville police interviewed Esteban-Cruz, who admitted to being present at Lake Fayetteville that night for a prearranged confrontation between his friends and an opposing group. Esteban-Cruz claimed that the driver of a vehicle pointed a weapon at him and his friends, prompting him to fire his pistol.

Esteban-Cruz was arrested two days after speaking with authorities and is currently being held at the Washington County Jail on a $750,000 bond. A hearing for Esteban-Cruz has been scheduled for March 18.

Previous Arrest

Prior to Esteban-Cruz’s arrest, another individual, Gilberto Gordillo, 20, was taken into custody in connection with the shooting. Gordillo pleaded not guilty to capital murder and four counts of attempted murder on March 15.

As the investigation into the shooting continues, authorities are working to bring justice to the victims and hold those responsible accountable for their actions.
