The Fatal Crash

At approximately 12:15pm, emergency responders rushed to the scene following reports of a collision involving a motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle, identified as 34-year-old Carlos Jason Lopez, was promptly transported to the hospital. However, despite efforts to save him, Lopez tragically succumbed to his injuries upon arrival.

The Investigation

The intersection of W. Saint Mary’s Rd and N Freeway was cordoned off for several hours as detectives meticulously pieced together the details of the fatal crash. It was determined that the driver of a Hyundai Tucson, 33-year-old Daniela Marquez-Batista, was making a left turn from W. Saint Mary’s Rd to head north on N. Freeway when the collision occurred.

According to the Tucson Police Department (TPD), Marquez-Batista did not have a protected green arrow while turning left, leading to the fatal accident. She was subsequently arrested for ‘Causing Death by Moving Violation’ and later cited and released.
