A tragic incident occurred on Sunday in Mansoorpur village, located approximately 66 kilometres from the city, where a police constable lost his life in the line of duty. The deceased, identified as Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) Constable Amritpal Singh, was shot dead during a raid conducted by a police team to apprehend a suspect believed to be harbouring illegal weapons.
Details of the Incident
Hoshiarpur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Surendra Lamba reported that the CIA team had gone to Mansoorpur village to conduct a raid at the residence of Sukhwinder Singh. However, as they attempted to enter the house, the suspect opened fire, resulting in Constable Amritpal Singh being struck in the chest.
Despite the best efforts of the other team members to escape unharmed, Sukhwinder Singh managed to flee the scene before he could be apprehended. Amritpal Singh was rushed to Civil Hospital in Mukerian, but due to the severity of his injuries, he was transferred to a private hospital where he tragically succumbed to his wounds.
Ongoing Police Operations
Following the incident, SSP Surendra Lamba has confirmed that efforts are currently underway to locate and apprehend Sukhwinder Singh. Police teams are conducting raids on various locations suspected to be the hideouts of the suspect in order to bring him to justice.
