Indian-Origin Family Die in Suspicious House Fire in Brampton, Ontario

Last week, tragedy struck in the quiet neighbourhood of Big Sky Way and Van Kirk Drive in Brampton, Ontario, where an Indian-origin couple and their teenage daughter lost their lives in a devastating house fire. The incident, described as “suspicious” by the Peel Police, shocked the community and left many questions unanswered.

Discovery of Human Remains

The fire broke out on March 7, engulfing the family’s home in flames. After the blaze was extinguished, investigators made a grim discovery – human remains were found within the gutted house. It wasn’t until later that the charred remains were identified as belonging to 51-year-old Rajiv Warikoo, his wife 47-year-old Shilpa Kotha, and their 16-year-old daughter, Mahek Warikoo.

A Tragic Loss

Rajiv Warikoo, a former member of the Toronto police auxiliary programme, had served as a volunteer officer before ending his duties in 2016. According to his LinkedIn profile, he was employed with the Ontario Government – Ministry of Health. The family had been residents at the address before the fire, leading to suspicions regarding the circumstances surrounding their untimely deaths.

Neighbour’s Account

Neighbour Kenneth Yousaf, who had known the family for over 15 years, expressed shock at the tragic turn of events. He recalled the family as quiet and friendly, stating that he had never noticed any problems with them. Yousaf was alerted to the fire by a loud “bang” that caught the attention of a family member, marking the beginning of the tragic incident.
