Man Fatally Stabbed at Fall River Rooming House

A tragic incident unfolded at a rooming house in Fall River, where a 44-year-old man lost his life after being stabbed on Friday night. The Fall River Police Department, along with the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, responded to the scene at 234 Tripp St. around 9:45 p.m. following reports of a violent altercation between two residents.

The victim, identified as Joseph Bump, was found with multiple stab wounds upon the arrival of law enforcement officials. Despite being rushed to Saint Anne’s Hospital for urgent medical care, Bump succumbed to his injuries shortly before 10:30 p.m. that same evening.

The alleged perpetrator, Pedro Fernando Orellano Alvarado, 42, was apprehended at the scene and is facing charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Alvarado remains in police custody pending an arraignment scheduled for Monday morning at Fall River District Court.

Both the victim and the accused were residents of the rooming house, according to information released by the DA’s Office. The investigation into this tragic incident is currently being handled by Massachusetts State Police detectives in collaboration with the Fall River Police Department, under the supervision of Assistant District Attorney Daniel Walsh.

This unfortunate event marks the second fatality in Fall River within the same week. Just days earlier, Colus Jamal Mills-Good, an 18-year-old student at Resiliency Preparatory Academy, tragically lost his life in a downtown shooting. The investigation into Mills-Good’s death is ongoing, with authorities seeking leads in collaboration with the State Police Detective Unit.
