Accident – Death – Obituary News :

The US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has launched an investigation into a fatal collision involving a Ford Mustang Mach-E in San Antonio, Texas. The incident occurred on February 24 on Interstate Highway 10, where the Ford vehicle rear-ended a stationary Honda CR-V.

According to reports from San Antonio police, the driver of the Honda CR-V, identified as 56-year-old Jeffrey Allen Johnson from Austin, tragically lost his life in the crash. Despite being transported to a hospital, Johnson succumbed to his injuries.

Ford’s BlueCruise Technology

At the time of the collision, the Ford Mustang Mach-E was equipped with BlueCruise, an advanced hands-free driving technology that operates on 97% of highways in the US and Canada. However, this system does not function at intersections or traffic signals.

The NTSB’s interest in this case stems from their ongoing concerns about how advanced driver assistance systems interact with human operators. As part of their investigation, NTSB officials will examine the wreckage and gather data from the accident site.

NHTSA Reporting Requirements

Automakers like Ford are required by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to report any fatal accidents involving advanced driver assistance systems. A Ford spokesperson has assured full cooperation with the NTSB’s investigation and a commitment to prioritizing safety.

In recent years, the NTSB has conducted multiple inquiries into the functionality of advanced driver assistance systems, including Tesla’s Autopilot technology. The agency’s findings aim to enhance safety standards across the automotive industry.
