Discovery of Human Remains in the Book Cliffs Area of Grand County, Utah

In a tragic turn of events, human remains were discovered in the remote Book Cliffs area of Grand County, Utah. The remains were identified as those of Timothy Jordan Boone, a 36-year-old man who had been missing since August 4, 2021.

The National Missing and Unidentified Person System reported that Boone’s vehicle broke down in the rugged terrain of the San Rafael Swell area in Sevier County. He was then given a ride on an ATV to a fire station in Emery County before spending the night in a hotel in Huntington, Utah. Boone was last seen in Moab, Utah, at a T-Mobile store, before his disappearance.

Hiker’s TikTok Video Leads to Discovery

In a surprising twist, a hiker named Ryan, known on TikTok as ry_of_the_desert, posted a video on May 22, 2023, showing items he found while exploring an archaeological site in the San Rafael Swell. The video showcased a backpack, a guitar, clothing, and a blanket, among other items, which some viewers believed belonged to the missing man.

Recovery and Identification of Remains

The recovery effort for the human remains found in Grand County began when a hiker reported finding bones in the area. Search and rescue teams, aided by the Mesa County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue K9 unit, located the remains on March 10, 2024. The remains were then sent to the Utah State Medical Examiner’s Office for official identification.

Authorities from the Grand County Sheriff’s Office have stated that they do not suspect foul play in Boone’s death, bringing some closure to his family and loved ones.
