MOAB — The Grand County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that human remains found in the Book Cliffs area in northeastern Grand County have been identified as those of Timothy Jordan Boone, who went missing on August 4, 2021.

Discovery of the Remains

Deputies were alerted to the discovery of the bones on Sunday and immediately launched a search and rescue operation. Teams from Grand County and Mesa County, Colorado, along with a Mesa County K-9 unit, worked together to recover the remains, which were then sent to the Utah Office of the Medical Examiner for identification.

Positive Identification

State officials have positively identified the remains as those of Timothy Jordan Boone. The Sheriff’s Office has stated that at this time, no foul play is suspected in Boone’s disappearance or death.

Family’s Statement

Boone’s sister shared on social media that her brother had struggled with severe mental illness throughout his life. She described him as a talented writer, musician, artist, and photographer who was an advocate for the LGBTQ and homeless community.

Family members recounted Boone’s journey from the San Rafael Swell to Moab, where he was last seen. The investigation into his disappearance gained renewed attention in May 2023 when a man posted a video on TikTok claiming to have found Boone’s belongings in the San Rafael Swell.

Closure for the Family

The Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude to all involved in bringing closure to Boone’s family. The discovery of his remains has provided some answers in the search for the missing man.
