DULUTH, Minn. — A shocking incident unfolded at Raleigh Edison Academy in Duluth, where a music teacher, John Horgeshimer, 48, is facing serious charges of sexual assault. The charges, filed in St. Louis County, include second-degree criminal sexual conduct and first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a victim under 14 years of age.

Police Investigation

On the afternoon of March 5, authorities were called to the school following a report of sexual assault. Upon arrival, police spoke with the school principal and the parents of the victim, a young girl born in 2012.

According to court documents, the girl had been at the school to participate in a reading activity with younger students. While running to retrieve an eraser, she encountered Horgeshimer in a stairwell. It was alleged that he cornered her and began to inappropriately touch her “chest area.”

Escaping the Assault

The brave young girl managed to push Horgeshimer’s hand away and flee to her classroom. Once there, she immediately informed her teacher about the assault and expressed the need to report the incident to the principal’s office.

She was able to identify Horgeshimer by name as the perpetrator of the assault, according to court documents.

Potential Consequences

If convicted, Horgeshimer could potentially face up to 30 years in prison for his alleged actions.
