Accident – Death – Obituary News :

GRAND COUNTY, Colo. — A man was taken into custody after a dramatic series of events unfolded on Thursday near Berthoud Pass in Winter Park, Colorado. The incident began when a silver Jeep Cherokee disregarded a closure on Berthoud Pass and collided with a Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) plow following a pursuit by law enforcement.

Details of the Incident

At around 12:06 p.m., a sergeant from the Grand County Sheriff’s Office was stationed in a marked vehicle at the intersection of Highway 40 and Mary Jane Road in Winter Park. As the sergeant attempted to block off the highway, the silver Jeep Cherokee drove past him, heading eastbound on Highway 40. Despite the sergeant’s attempts to pull over the vehicle, the driver refused to stop, prompting a pursuit.

The chase came to a halt at the top of Berthoud Pass, where the sergeant discontinued the pursuit and alerted nearby law enforcement agencies to be on the lookout for the Jeep. Shortly after, reports came in that the Jeep had been involved in a crash on Highway 40, approximately five miles east of the Berthoud Pass Summit at Mile Post 247. The driver, identified as 33-year-old Randy Calvin, attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended.

Consequences of the Crash

During the collision, Calvin’s Jeep struck a CDOT plow that was attempting to safeguard other vehicles on the road. Grand County Sheriff Brett Schroetlin expressed his concern over the incident, emphasizing the importance of upholding the rule of law and ensuring the safety of the community.

Calvin was subsequently booked into the Grand County Jail on traffic charges, in addition to an outstanding felony arrest warrant for a parole violation. The sheriff’s office remains committed to enforcing the law and holding individuals accountable for their actions.
