NEWNAN, Ga. – A tragic incident unfolded in Newnan, Georgia, where a standoff between a SWAT team and a murder suspect came to a devastating conclusion. The events took place at an apartment building off McIntosh Road near Roberts Road on March 15, 2024.

SWAT Team Confronts Murder Suspect

Police had been on the lookout for 19-year-old Omar Maurice Rosser, Jr., wanted for the murder of 19-year-old Bryant Elder in Meriwether County. Rosser had barricaded himself inside a residence and refused to surrender to authorities, prompting a standoff that lasted for several hours.

Tragic Discovery

Despite efforts to negotiate with Rosser, the SWAT team eventually made their way into the apartment and made a heartbreaking discovery. Rosser was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, bringing a somber end to the standoff.

Murder Investigation Unfolds

The investigation into Bryant Elder’s shooting death had led authorities to Rosser, who was identified by witnesses as the shooter. Elder was tragically found with a fatal gunshot wound in Luthersville, sparking a manhunt for Rosser.

Rosser was believed to have fled the scene in a white Mazda car, which was later located in the Zion Hill Community of Meriwether County. Witnesses reported seeing Rosser switching vehicles to a white Honda car before evading authorities.

Past Criminal Record

Records from Coweta County Jail revealed that Bryant Elder had a prior arrest for a hit-and-run incident on March 6. Authorities found a firearm and a small amount of marijuana in Elder’s white Mazda at the time of the arrest, shedding light on his criminal history.
