A 39-year-old man from Carbon County found himself in hot water after firing eight shots out of the driver’s side window of his vehicle in a dramatic turn of events.

Location of the Incident

The incident took place at 489 S. Highway 55 in Carbon County, Utah, where witnesses reported hearing shots fired in the early hours of the morning.

According to Carbon County Sheriff’s deputies, they were dispatched to the scene at 1:45 a.m. on March 14, following multiple reports of gunfire in the area.

Details of the Incident

Witnesses at the scene informed authorities that the suspect, identified as Nicholas Gerald Stewart, was repeatedly asked to leave the residence before the situation escalated.

When asked to leave for the second time, Stewart allegedly brandished a handgun and pointed it at one of the victims, who narrowly avoided being shot by ducking out of the way.

Stewart then got into his vehicle and fired several rounds into the air from the driver’s side window. He subsequently circled back to the residence, fired more shots into the air, and fled the scene.

Arrest and Charges

Deputies were able to track down Stewart’s vehicle at 335 N. Fairgrounds Road and conducted a traffic stop. Stewart was removed from the car, and a spent shell casing fell from his lap during the process.

Stewart was taken into custody and faced a slew of charges, including a second-degree felony charge of using a concealed weapon in the commission of a violent felony, a third-degree felony charge of aggravated assault, and several misdemeanor charges related to driving under the influence and discharging a firearm from a vehicle.
