Shooting Incident In Leyte Leaves Two Injured

In the quiet Barangay Dapdap in Alongalang town, Leyte, a shocking incident unfolded on March 14, 2024. Two drivers, known only as alias “Neil” and alias “Errol”, both residents of San Isidro, Leyte, were victims of a targeted shooting while driving through the area.

The incident occurred at around 3 p.m. as the victims were travelling towards Alangalang town proper in a grey pick-up truck. Unidentified assailants opened fire on the vehicle, hitting it multiple times and causing significant damage.

Alias “Neil” suffered a gunshot wound to his lower back during the attack, while alias “Errol” miraculously escaped unharmed. “Neil” was promptly taken to the Rural Health Unit in Alangalang for medical treatment.

Police Response and Investigation

The Alangalang Police immediately launched an investigation into the incident, working tirelessly to track down the perpetrators. Police Major Joshua Bien Chiquillo, the chief of the Alangalang Municipal Police Station, revealed that the suspects fled towards Santa Fe, Leyte after the shooting.

In a coordinated effort, the Alangalang Police reached out to neighbouring police stations for support in conducting dragnet operations. Additionally, they enlisted the assistance of the Regional Forensic Unit 8 to meticulously process the crime scene for vital evidence.

Province-Wide Alert

Reacting to the alarming incident, Police Colonel Erwin Portillo, the director of the Leyte Police Provincial Office, took decisive action. He ordered all field units across Leyte to respond swiftly and effectively to the situation.

Col. Portillo expressed deep concern over the incident, vowing to leave no stone unturned in the pursuit of justice. He emphasised the importance of gathering evidence and utilising CCTV footage to identify the assailants responsible for the attack.

To ensure the safety and security of the residents, Col. Portillo announced that a full alert status would be imposed on the entire Province of Leyte. This proactive measure aimed to heighten vigilance and deter any further acts of violence in the region.

Mayor Veloso Speaks Out

In an exclusive interview with GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak, San Isidro Mayor Remedio Veloso shared his perspective on the incident. Mayor Veloso expressed his belief that he was the intended target of the shooting, attributing it to his vocal stance against the alleged political killings in the third district of Leyte.
