Jefferson County Prosecutor David Sutter is releasing his findings of a December 2023 Death Investigation that occurred on Telegraph Hill Road

On December 12, 2023, tragedy struck a quiet neighbourhood on Telegraph Hill Road near Madison, Indiana. Emergency responders rushed to a home in the 1600 Block of East Telegraph Hill Road, where a devastating scene awaited them. As they arrived, a raging fire engulfed the house, leading to a harrowing discovery. Inside the burning structure, the lifeless bodies of four individuals were found. Despite the efforts of first responders, all four individuals, identified as Naomi Briner, 35, Adelia Briner, 12, Leland Briner, 8, and Iyla Briner, 6, were pronounced dead at the scene.

As the fire was extinguished, detectives from the Indiana State Police-Versailles Post took charge of the investigation. A collaborative effort ensued, involving multiple agencies such as the Indiana Fire Marshal’s Office, Jefferson County Prosecutor’s Office, Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, and the Madison Police Department.

The deceased individuals were transported to Hamilton County, Ohio, for autopsies to be conducted by a forensic pathologist. The results revealed a grim reality – the three children had tragically succumbed to gunshot wounds, marking their deaths as homicides. Furthermore, it was determined that Naomi Briner had taken her own life with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

After a thorough investigation, Jefferson County Prosecutor David Sutter made a solemn announcement. The evidence pointed towards Naomi Briner as the perpetrator behind the deaths of her three children and herself. It was a heart-wrenching revelation for the community and all involved parties.

In his statement, Prosecutor Sutter expressed his condolences to the affected families and praised the diligent efforts of law enforcement. With the case now concluded, he conveyed that no further leads were being pursued in this tragic incident.
