Armed Robbery Suspect Arrested After Gunfight in Dwarka, Delhi
Early Friday morning, the Delhi Police crime branch successfully apprehended an armed robbery suspect and his accomplice after a dramatic gunfight in Dhulsiras village, located in the bustling neighbourhood of Dwarka in southwest Delhi. Senior police officers involved in the operation revealed that the suspect, identified as Miraj alias Mehraj, was wanted in connection with a high-profile armed robbery case amounting to Rs. 3 crore. Miraj, who had a notorious criminal record with several counts of robbery and Arms Act violations, had a bounty of Rs. 2 lakh on his head.
Intensive Search Operation
Multiple specialized units including the special cell, crime branch, and district police had been tirelessly scouring various parts of Delhi to track down Miraj, who had been on the run ever since the armed robbery incident was reported in Ashok Vihar, northwest Delhi, the previous year. The Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP) for crime, Sanjay Bhatia, disclosed that the breakthrough came when the crime branch’s western range-II (WR-II) team received a credible tip-off about Miraj’s whereabouts.
Dramatic Confrontation
Acting swiftly on the intel, the police set up a strategic trap in Dhulsiras village, awaiting Miraj’s arrival with his associate. In the early hours of Friday, the suspects were cornered by the police team, and despite being ordered to surrender peacefully, Miraj opened fire at the officers. In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, Miraj sustained a gunshot wound to his leg, while his accomplice was subdued and taken into custody. The officers recovered two firearms from the scene.
Previous Robbery Incident
The armed robbery case that Miraj was implicated in took place in Ashok Vihar, where a group of masked assailants armed with weapons had invaded a businessman’s residence, terrorizing his family at gunpoint and making off with a staggering sum of Rs. 3 crore. While four suspects were apprehended by the police shortly after the incident, Miraj had managed to evade capture, prompting a widespread manhunt and the announcement of a substantial reward for information leading to his arrest.
With his arrest, the residents of Dwarka can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that a dangerous criminal has been taken off the streets, thanks to the relentless efforts of the Delhi Police.
