Accident – Death – Obituary News :

The Tragic Drowning of Leslie and Jon Ballo

In a heartbreaking turn of events, the Peel Estuary in Perth, Australia, became the site of a devastating incident that claimed the lives of Leslie and Jon Ballo, a Filipino couple who had called the city their home for the past nine years. The couple tragically drowned while crabbing in the serene waters of the estuary, leaving behind a community in mourning.

A Day of Tragedy

The peaceful waters of the Peel Estuary turned into a scene of sorrow as the bodies of Leslie, 49, and Jon Ballo, 50, were discovered by authorities near the Herron Point boat ramp. The couple, who were known for their love of the outdoors, had set out for a day of crabbing but never returned home. Concerned loved ones raised the alarm when the Ballos failed to show up for work the following day.

A Community in Mourning

The New Life Filipino-Australian Community Church, where the Ballos were active members, was shaken by the news of their tragic demise. The church’s Head Pastor expressed his devastation at the loss of the couple, whom he had known since their arrival in Perth.

“At 6am on Thursday, they both failed to turn up for work,” he recounted. “We spotted brother Jon’s car at the carpark around 9.15am on Thursday… one police car was one minute ahead of us because they tracked down the ping of Leslie’s phone.”

A Heartfelt Tribute

Leslie Ballo’s sister, Lei Ortega-Moises, took to Facebook to share a touching tribute to her beloved sister and brother-in-law. She expressed her disbelief at their sudden departure and thanked their churchmates and friends for their support during this difficult time.

“It’s sad to think that you left us like this,” she wrote. “We love you very much. It hurts so much for me/us that you are gone. We couldn’t believe it.”

A Tragic Loss

Police confirmed that the deaths of Leslie and Jon Ballo were a result of drowning, and while the circumstances were undoubtedly heart-wrenching, they determined that there was no foul play involved.

The Peel Estuary, once a place of tranquility and joy for the Ballos, now stands as a somber reminder of the fragility of life. As the community comes together to mourn the loss of this beloved couple, their memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved them.
