CHICAGO (CBS) – A man has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a 29-year-old man in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood in January.

Kendall Fleming, 27, was apprehended by Chicago police and members of the Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force on Wednesday in the 1400 block of East 76th Street.

He now faces one felony count of first-degree murder.

The tragic incident took place on Jan. 12 at approximately 8:30 p.m. when the victim was discovered by authorities with a gunshot wound to the head. He was rushed to Christ Hospital but, unfortunately, was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Further investigation revealed that the victim had been engaged in an altercation with another individual, identified as Fleming, who allegedly produced a firearm and shot the victim before fleeing into a nearby residence.

Fleming was set to appear at a detention hearing on Friday.

No further details have been released at this time.
