A 16-year-old boy is facing serious charges after a harrowing incident in Richland County, South Carolina. The teenager, identified as Jeremy Taylor, has been charged as an adult with attempted murder after opening fire on Richland County deputies, striking K-9 Kobe multiple times.
Details of the Incident
The incident unfolded when deputies responded to a call about a stolen Ford pickup truck in the 500 block of Deerwood Street shortly after midnight on Mar. 14. The owner of the truck reported that his gun was inside the stolen vehicle, setting the stage for a dangerous confrontation.
K-9 Specialist Bryan Hodge and K-9 Specialist Datron Washington, along with their K-9 partners Kobe and Sonny, located the stolen vehicle two hours later and attempted a traffic stop. A brief chase ensued when the driver failed to pull over for the deputies.
After the vehicle came to a stop, the suspects tried to flee on foot. Deputies gave chase, and when the driver brandished a handgun, K-9 Kobe attempted to apprehend him. In a shocking turn of events, the driver opened fire on the deputies, striking K-9 Kobe multiple times.
Charges and Arrest
Jeremy Taylor, the 16-year-old driver, was ultimately taken into custody after being shot by deputies. He is now facing a slew of charges, including attempted murder, unlawful injury to a police dog, multiple weapons charges, failure to stop for blue lights, and grand larceny of a motor vehicle.
