The injuries sustained by Dimatteo were consistent with being struck by a vehicle, leaving investigators deeply troubled by the tragic turn of events.

Suspect identified in fatal hit-and-run

Following the discovery of the victim’s body, law enforcement officials tirelessly worked to piece together the events leading up to the fatal hit-and-run. Through meticulous examination of the vehicle debris, authorities were able to determine that all the debris originated from a single vehicle. Further investigation revealed that the suspect vehicle was a blue 2022 Volkswagen Atlas, which had been captured on camera with damage consistent with the crash.

High-speed pursuit in Milwaukee County

On March 8, Milwaukee County deputies initiated a search for the suspect, Forest Mayes, in connection to the fatal hit-and-run. Mayes was spotted near 20th and Rawson, prompting a high-speed pursuit that put the lives of innocent civilians at risk. Despite the deputy’s attempts to apprehend him, Mayes displayed reckless disregard for public safety by driving on the wrong side of the road, running red lights, and reaching speeds of up to 98 mph.

Charges filed against Mayes

In light of the tragic hit-and-run incident and the subsequent high-speed pursuit, Forest Mayes, 23, is facing a total of seven charges. These include hit-and-run resulting in death, felony bail jumping, fleeing/eluding police, and first-degree recklessly endangering safety.
