DE LEON, TX — A tragic motorcycle accident took place earlier this week in Comanche County, resulting in the death of a biker who was riding a Harley without a helmet. The incident occurred on Farm to Market Road 1496, approximately 6 miles east of the quaint town of De Leon.

Details of the Crash

The Texas Department of Public Safety reported that the crash occurred at 7:20 p.m. on March 13, under clear weather and dry road conditions. The collision involved a 2003 Harley-Davidson Sportster motorcycle and a 2000 Freightliner truck tractor towing a 2015 MAS semi-trailer.

The biker, identified as 56-year-old James Dean Roden of De Leon, Texas, tragically lost his life in the crash. Roden, who was not wearing a helmet at the time of the incident, crossed into the oncoming southbound lane and struck the left side of the towed trailer of the truck.

The driver of the truck, 32-year-old Francisco Javier Carrasco Ortega from Del Bosque, Mexico, was wearing his seatbelt and fortunately did not sustain any injuries.

Investigations and Speed Limit

Preliminary investigations suggest that Roden failed to maintain his lane, leading to the fatal collision. The posted speed limit on FM 1496 is 60 miles per hour, and authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
