The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office announced on Friday that Jayda Styles, the mother of 7-month-old Harmonnie Jones who died last year from blunt force injuries, has been indicted for her alleged involvement in the infant’s death.

Details of the Incident

The tragic incident occurred on Jan. 8, 2023, when Indianapolis Metropolitan police responded to a report of an unresponsive child at an apartment in the 4400 block of Linwood Court. The baby, later identified as Jones, was rushed to Riley Hospital for Children, where she unfortunately passed away. The Marion County Coroner’s office ruled the infant’s death as a homicide caused by blunt force injuries.

Indictment and Charges

A grand jury returned an indictment for Jayda Styles on one count of aggravated battery, a Level 1 felony. The indictment alleges that Styles knowingly inflicted injury on Harmonnie, leading to her tragic death. Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears expressed his condolences and stated that the case will proceed in Marion County Superior Court.

Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears stated, “This tragedy was completely preventable, and an infant lost her life because of the alleged actions of the defendant. I commend the grand jury for their time and consideration and setting us on the path towards justice for Harmonnie.”

Next Steps

Following the indictment, the case will now move forward in Marion County Superior Court as the investigation continues. The baby’s twin was taken into custody by the Department of Child Services, ensuring their safety and well-being.
