Accident – Death – Obituary News : Nagpur: A tragic incident unfolded in the early hours of Thursday as a debt-ridden rice mill owner allegedly strangled his wife and son before taking his own life at their residence in Shanti Nagar, Nimkheda, Mouda tehsil. The deceased have been identified as Shrinivas Endupunganti (58), his wife Shripadmalata (54), and their son Chandrashekhar.
The Superintendent of Police, Harssh Poddar, revealed that preliminary investigations suggest Shrinivas committed the heinous act due to mounting debts. With a staggering debt of Rs10 to Rs11 crore, the financial burden may have driven him to take such extreme measures. However, authorities are exploring other possible motives as well.
The tragic sequence of events began on Wednesday night when the family had dinner together. Shrinivas, his wife, and son resided on the first floor of the house, while their daughter-in-law and Shrinivas’s in-laws occupied the ground floor. In the early hours of Thursday, Shrinivas strangled his wife and son before ultimately hanging himself from a cupboard.
The shocking discovery was made by Chandani, Chandrashekhar’s wife, who found her husband deceased upon waking up. Upon further investigation, she also discovered the lifeless bodies of her in-laws. The authorities were immediately notified, and the bodies were sent for postmortem examination.
Sources close to the family revealed that Shrinivas had taken a loan of around Rs8 crore and had mortgaged all his assets, including the rice mill. Furthermore, he had defaulted on several instalments and owed substantial amounts to farmers. The immense financial stress is believed to have taken a toll on his mental well-being.
The house where the tragic incident took place was equipped with six CCTV cameras, which may provide valuable insights into the events leading up to the horrific act. The case is currently under investigation by the Aroli police, and further details are expected to emerge as the probe continues.
