Two children and a couple tragically lost their lives after a massive fire erupted in a residential building located in Shastri Nagar, an area in Shahdara. The devastating incident occurred on Thursday morning, resulting in a total of four fatalities. The victims have been identified as Manoj, aged 30, Suman, aged 25, and their two nieces, aged 10 and 7.

Additionally, eleven individuals sustained burn injuries during the fire outbreak, which is suspected to have been ignited by sparks from electrical wires. The blaze also caused damage to a car and a motorcycle on the premises. The local authorities were promptly alerted about the situation at 5.20 a.m., prompting the dispatch of nine fire tenders to combat the flames.

According to DCP (Shahdara) Surendra Choudhary, initial assessments by the forensic team suggest that the fire may have been triggered by sparks in the electrical wiring within the building. The structure where the fire originated comprises four floors and a designated car parking area.

The fire reportedly initiated in the parking lot before rapidly spreading throughout the building, enveloping it in smoke. Eyewitnesses at the scene described a harrowing situation where the building’s entrance was obstructed by flames, forcing some residents to seek refuge on the terrace and ultimately leap onto neighbouring rooftops to escape the inferno.

Rescue Efforts and Injuries

Fire department officials managed to arrive promptly and extinguish the flames, despite facing challenges posed by narrow streets in the vicinity. Those injured in the incident were swiftly transported to Dr. Hedgewar Aarogya Sansthan Hospital in Karkardooma for medical attention. Tragically, four of the injured individuals succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment.

Subsequently, four severely injured victims, identified as Rakesh Kumar (aged 34), Baby (aged 32), Nandu (aged 25), and a two-year-old named Iafra, were transferred to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital for further medical care. An FIR has been filed under pertinent sections of the Indian Penal Code against unidentified individuals responsible for the negligence that led to this tragic incident.
