Arrest Made in Connection with Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash in Vernon

A Hartford man was taken into custody on Wednesday in connection with a tragic hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of a young man in Vernon. The incident took place last month on Prospect Street, involving a white 2018 Infiniti Q5 and a 2008 Harley Davidson motorcycle.

The victim, 25-year-old James Faulkner from Vernon, was rushed to Rockville General Hospital after the crash but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the Infiniti, identified as 20-year-old Jahmarcus Mccatty, fled the scene, leaving behind a trail of devastation.

Police Efforts Lead to Arrest

After weeks of thorough investigation, the Vernon Police Department, in collaboration with the Hartford Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit, Emergency Response Team, Fugitive Task Force, and Auto Theft Task Force, successfully located Mccatty at a residence in Hartford. He was promptly arrested on multiple charges related to the hit-and-run incident.

Among the charges Mccatty faces are first-degree manslaughter, evading responsibility resulting in death, following too closely, second-degree larceny, and several traffic violations. The severity of the charges reflects the gravity of the consequences of his actions.

Legal Proceedings and Further Investigations

Currently held on a substantial bond of $1 million, Mccatty is slated to appear in Rockville Superior Court for further legal proceedings. Additionally, he is also facing charges in Hartford as a result of the search warrant executed by law enforcement.
