Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Here’s what we know about the man shot by Harrisburg police

A man who allegedly exchanged gunfire with Harrisburg police is now charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault and other offenses. Jacob Bucher III, 38, was hit by a bullet and a stun gun before being taken into custody on Wednesday afternoon. The viewer video above shows Bucher with his hands in the air before falling to the ground. There is also video of the arrest. A criminal complaint details what led up to the confrontation: A Harrisburg police corporal started following a silver minivan occupied by a suspect in shooting incidents that had happened earlier in the day. At the intersection of Cameron and Maclay streets, the corporal activated his emergency lights to pull the vehicle over. The vehicle stopped in the far right turn lane and the suspect, later identified as Bucher, got out of the minivan. The corporal ordered Bucher to stop, but he kept walking away. Bucher pulled a gun and fired multiple shots at the officer. The corporal returned fire and took cover behind a traffic light pole. Bucher kept walking across the intersection while continuing to shoot at the corporal. The corporal again returned fire. Bucher was struck by a round but still didn’t stop. Another Harrisburg officer arrived and stopped his police vehicle behind Bucher. Bucher then dropped his gun. The second officer got out of his vehicle, pursued Bucher and fired a stun gun at him. Bucher continued to resist arrest while being taken into custody. The complaint states: “The intersection of Cameron Street and Maclay Street was highly populated at this time with occupied motor vehicles and panhandlers/pedestrians. The defendant initiated a gun battle with and continued exchanging gunfire with amongst this busy intersection, endangering the lives of numerous civilians.” Bucher’s gun was a .38 caliber five-shot revolver loaded with five empty cartridges, according to police. Police said Bucher was convicted of burglary in 2007. Burglary is a felony, which means he’s not legally allowed to have a gun. Court records show Bucher has a number of altercations with police. He was arrested last year following what police described as a slow-speed chase. In 2016, he was allegedly involved in a disturbance at a vigil for victims of a Florida mass shooting.
