Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Tragic Incident in Covington, Kentucky

In a heartbreaking turn of events, a man was shot and killed by police officers at the Cambridge Square Apartments in Covington, Kentucky. The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday morning when officers responded to reports of a man attempting to break into an apartment with a butcher knife.

Desperate Plea from Girlfriend

The girlfriend of the deceased, Mekisha Asher, was a witness to the tragic events that unfolded that night. She tearfully recounted how her boyfriend, Charles Neace, was suffering from a schizophrenic episode and was only banging on their neighbor’s door because he was hearing voices.

“He’d just been battling them all day and just kept getting worse and worse and I didn’t know what to do,” Asher said. She pleaded with the officers not to use lethal force and instead suggested using a Taser to subdue Neace.

Questioning the Use of Force

Neace, who was on parole at the time of the shooting, had a history of criminal convictions. However, Asher believes that the police should have handled the situation differently and not resorted to opening fire on her boyfriend.

“They are here to protect us and they only use their gun until somebody is coming at them,” she said. “I saw cause I got out there and I was screaming like, ‘Please don’t kill him. That’s my everything.’

Investigation Underway

Kentucky State Police will be conducting an investigation to determine whether the use of force by the officers was justified. No officers were injured during the incident, and it was confirmed that their body cameras were recording at the time.

This tragic incident has left the community in shock and has raised questions about the handling of mental health crises by law enforcement. The family and friends of Charles Neace are left mourning the loss of a loved one, as they seek answers and justice for what transpired that fateful night in Covington.
