Discovery of Body in Gulf Harbour Sparks Homicide Investigation

Authorities have revealed that the body found in a bag in Gulf Harbour was that of a small Asian woman, sparking a homicide investigation into the tragic incident. The discovery was made by fisherman Paul Middleton, who stumbled upon the grim find while fishing in the area.

Details of the Incident

The body was located in the water near Laurie Southwick Parade in Gulf Harbour, with Middleton making the discovery around 3.15pm. Acting Detective Inspector Tim Williams of Waitematā CIB confirmed that a post-mortem examination had been conducted, revealing that the victim was a female of Asian descent, possibly Chinese and of small stature.

Fisherman’s Account

Paul Middleton was in the Whangaparāoa area for a day of fishing when he came across the disturbing scene. After casting his line near the ferry terminal, he noticed a bag floating in the water. Initially mistaking it for a log or dead animal, Middleton eventually reeled it in and discovered the tragic contents inside.

Reports indicate that tourists parked in a camper van at Gulf Harbour had spotted something floating in the water a day prior to the body being found. The Kiwi couple mentioned that they had observed the object from the shoreline but were unaware of its nature. Middleton’s actions in uncovering the body shed light on the tragic events that had transpired.
