Tragic Accident in New York Claims Life of 8-Year-Old Boy

NEW YORK – An unimaginable tragedy struck a quiet neighbourhood in Queens on Wednesday afternoon, leaving a community in mourning. An 8-year-old boy lost his life, and his older brother was injured after they were struck by a pickup truck in East Elmhurst.

Details of the Incident

The heartbreaking incident unfolded around 4:15 p.m. near 100th Street and 31st Avenue in East Elmhurst, Queens. A 52-year-old man was behind the wheel of a Nissan Titan when he sped into an intersection to make a left turn. Tragically, the boys and their mother were in the crosswalk when they were struck by the vehicle.

First responders rushed to the scene, where they found the 8-year-old boy unconscious and unresponsive. Despite their best efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. His 10-year-old brother sustained a wrist injury and was taken to New York Presbyterian Hospital, where he remains in stable condition.

Driver Faces Charges

The driver, identified as Jose Barcia of Queens, has been taken into custody and is now facing charges of criminally negligent homicide and speeding. The authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic accident.
