Mumbai: A tragic accident took place in Kashimira during the early hours of Wednesday, resulting in the loss of a 40-year-old cleaner’s life. The incident occurred in Mangal Nagar, situated in the Hatkesh area of Kashimira at approximately 4 am.
Details of the Mishap
The deceased, identified as Vijay Shankar Rathod, a resident of Naigaon, was working as a cleaner when the unfortunate incident happened. He was assisting the driver, Ramesh Hemlu Rathod, in reversing a sand-laden dumper truck for unloading purposes.
Tragically, as the driver attempted to reverse the vehicle, he misjudged the distance and collided with Vijay Shankar Rathod. The impact caused the dumper truck to lose control and topple into a drain, leading to a catastrophic chain of events.

Rescue Efforts
Despite suffering severe injuries from the initial impact, Vijay Shankar Rathod slipped into the drain and was pinned under the weight of the truck. The fire brigade personnel from the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) swiftly arrived at the scene to retrieve Rathod’s body and the dumper truck from the drain.
Legal Actions
Tragically, Vijay Shankar Rathod was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The driver, Ramesh Hemlu Rathod, has been booked by the Kashimira police under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including causing death due to negligence and rash driving on a public way.
While the driver was taken into custody, formal arrest procedures were still pending at the time of reporting. Police Sub Inspector S. Palwe is currently overseeing further investigations into the tragic incident that claimed the life of Vijay Shankar Rathod.
