A devastating incident occurred off the coast of Key West in Florida, where a 27-year-old student from Telangana lost his life in a tragic Jet Ski collision. Venkataramana Pittala, a graduate student at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), was set to receive his degree in May before the unfortunate event took place.

Details of the Incident

The fatal collision took place on March 9 at Fury Playground, just north of Wisteria Island. Reports from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission revealed that a 14-year-old boy from Boca Raton was operating one of the Jet Skis involved in the accident. The collision between the two personal watercraft resulted in the untimely death of Pittala.

Jet Ski: The Watercraft Involved

For those unfamiliar, a Jet Ski is a type of personal watercraft, also known as a water scooter, where riders can sit or stand on the craft as they navigate through the water. In Florida, the minimum age to operate a personal watercraft is 14, as per the regulations of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

Efforts to Bring Pittala Home

Following the tragic incident, Pittala’s family and friends are currently raising donations to cover the expenses of transporting his body back to India for his final rites. A GoFundMe page has been set up by his friends to gather contributions and support during this difficult time.
