In a devastating turn of events, a 21-year-old woman and her pet dog tragically lost their lives due to suffocation after a music studio on the first floor of their house in Hargobind Nagar, Ludhiana, caught fire in the early hours of Wednesday. The incident occurred as a result of a short circuit, leading to a fatal outcome for the young woman and her beloved pet.
Details of the Incident
The victim, identified as Prabhjot Kaur Sheena, was a postgraduate student who assisted her cousin at a local restaurant. Her father, Kanwaljit Singh, a garment shop owner, had undertaken renovations at their residence, prompting Sheena, her mother, and their pet dog to temporarily stay in the music studio on the first floor of the house. Meanwhile, Kanwaljit and his son Rajan slept on the ground floor.
Tragedy struck when Sheena’s mother narrowly escaped the fire by stepping out to the kitchen to prepare tea just moments before the blaze erupted in the studio. Despite their best efforts to escape, Sheena and her pet dog were unable to flee the engulfing flames, ultimately succumbing to suffocation.
Response and Investigation
The Division Number 3 police officials swiftly responded to the scene and launched an investigation into the cause of the fire. The police promptly dispatched the victim’s body to the civil hospital for postmortem examination.
Sub-inspector Amritpal Singh, the Station House Officer (SHO) at Division Number 3 police station, confirmed that the authorities had commenced inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). The deceased’s body was subsequently released to the grieving family for final rites.

Neighbours and local residents rallied around the Singh family, offering their condolences and assistance during this trying time. Despite the family’s valiant efforts to extinguish the flames using buckets of water, they were unable to rescue Sheena and her loyal pet from the tragic fate that befell them.
