Chaos Erupts in Wuse Market as Innocent Hawker is Allegedly Shot by Correctional Officers
Yesterday, the bustling Wuse market in Abuja was thrown into chaos following a tragic incident that left residents in shock. Reports emerged that officers of the Correctional service had allegedly shot and killed a 17-year-old hawker named Musa, sparking outrage among the local community.

The news of Musa’s untimely death spread like wildfire, prompting angry youths to take to the streets and set parts of the popular market on fire. The situation quickly escalated, with reports of violence and destruction becoming more widespread.
Eye Witness Account
Imran Muhammed, who witnessed the incident, took to social media to share his account of the events that unfolded at Wuse market. According to him, a police officer allegedly shot the young hawker, leading to a chaotic scene at the market.
Police Response
The FCT police, in response to the escalating situation, described the killing as ‘civil unrest’. The Commissioner of Police FCT Command, CP Benneth Igweh, personally led a team of police operatives to the scene, where they assessed the situation and swiftly restored order.
Details of the Incident
According to spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh, the preliminary investigation revealed that the victim, Ibrahim Yahaya, was apprehended by operatives of the Abuja Environmental Protection Board Task Force and taken before a mobile court in Wuse market. Upon being convicted, Yahaya attempted to escape while being conveyed to prison, leading to the tragic shooting by corrections personnel.
The aftermath of the incident saw an irate mob setting ablaze eight vehicles and ten shops in the market vicinity, causing further uproar among residents. Despite the chaos, the police were able to bring the situation under control and restore normalcy to the area.
