Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Two Israelis were wounded on Wednesday morning in a terrifying stabbing incident at a military checkpoint near Jerusalem. The assailant, identified as Muhammed Abu Hamed, 15, from the nearby Palestinian village of al-Khader, approached the Highway 60 checkpoint on an electric bicycle before pulling out a knife and attacking the victims. Thanks to the swift actions of security personnel, the attacker was neutralized before causing further harm.

Details of the Attack

According to an eyewitness, the victims, a 25-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman, sustained light to moderate injuries in the attack. Both individuals suffered stab wounds to their limbs and upper body, but were conscious when first responders arrived on the scene. One of the victims was taken to Hadassah Medical Center’s Trauma Unit with a minor head injury, but remained fully alert and responsive.

Response from First Responders

United Hatzalah medic Shilo Etinger, one of the first responders at the scene, described the chaotic moments following the attack. “I was on a bus with basic bandaging equipment when we heard gunshots shortly after passing the checkpoint. I quickly identified myself as a medic and rushed to assist the injured individuals. Within half a minute, I was administering first aid to the young man and woman who had suffered stab wounds. Their conditions were initially classified as light and light to moderate.”

Past Incidents at the Checkpoint

This recent stabbing attack is not the first incident of violence near the checkpoint. Last November, Corporal Avraham Fetena, 20, from Haifa, tragically lost his life in a shooting at the same location. The attack, claimed by Hamas, resulted in additional casualties with injuries ranging from light to moderate. According to police reports, three attackers from the West Bank opened fire on the security forces stationed at the checkpoint.

Incidents like these serve as a stark reminder of the ongoing tensions in the region and the constant vigilance required to maintain security for all individuals in the area.
