Man from Michigan Found Guilty for Murder in Monongalia, West Virginia

In a tragic incident that shook the community of Monongalia, West Virginia, a man from Michigan has been found guilty for the 2022 murder of Matthew D. Moore. The incident took place in May of 2022, when a man was discovered deceased on a roadway in Monongalia County.

The victim, identified as Matthew D. Moore, a 46-year-old resident of Morgantown, was found lying lifeless in the roadway, sparking an intense investigation by local authorities. It was later revealed that Cleotis Cortez-Paul Epps, Jr., a 42-year-old man from Harper Woods, Michigan, was arrested by Monongalia County Sheriff’s Detectives in connection to the murder.

After a thorough investigation and legal proceedings, officials from the Monongalia County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office announced that a jury composed of nine women and three men delivered a guilty verdict on all charges of first-degree murder, kidnapping, and conspiracy to commit murder and/or kidnapping. The jury’s decision was made on Tuesday, March 12th, 2024, bringing closure to the case of Matthew Moore’s tragic demise.

As the trial reached its conclusion, it was determined that Epps will be facing a life sentence in West Virginia, with no possibility of parole as the jury did not recommend mercy.
